  1. I too thought this was a good show, but I think maybe a little slow moving. Had the setup been a bit better to keep people hooked from episode to episode I think it would not have been cancelled so soon. So is that a recommendation? Somehow, despite its large appeal, I managed to never catch a single episode of this series. There is now a new show that has only aired two episodes so far called Revolution. So far it seems pretty interesting and J.J. Abrams, who was heavily involved in Lost is on as an executive producer on Revolution. From the opening introduction: "We lived in an electric world. We relied on it for everything. And then the power went out. Everything stopped working. We weren't prepared. Fear and confusion led to panic. The lucky ones made it out of the cities. The government collapsed. Militias took over, controlling the food supply and stockpiling weapons. We still don't know why the power went out. But we're hopeful someone will come and light the way."
  2. With a 15 year old I don't think he'd have much trouble. Those who mess with the really young kids though, they have big problems. I had a friend who worked as a prison guard for a few years, confirmed that for me.
  3. "extra-curricular maths lessons" So that's what they're calling it now huh?
  4. Ah July. The weather is getting hotter and the air conditioner is cranked up, so what better excuse to stay in and get some work done? The month has really just begun, so I only have a few updates to detail so far, but I will keep this thread updated with any changes throughout the month. A new skin is on the way. As of today, staff were given access to preview and test the new skin. Attached below is a screenshot preview to take a look in the meantime. New Members are no longer restricted from using the PM system. There are still fairly tight controls on the number of PMs that can be sent daily. Standard rules apply with restrictions being lifted after making 5 posts and being moved into the regular members group. This change was made so that even new members to the site have more options for communicating with other members and staff. As registrations are checked against two separate databases for known spammers, our spammer registration rate has dropped to practically zero. As a result I see no reason to continue restricting members who may have a legitimate use of the PM system. In the past week, a few forums were shifted around, and admin Rahul has temporarily hidden the Training and Coaching section while the content and organization is reworked into a more condensed format. Lastly, a small change was made to the tag chart to allow more popular tags to also stand out with a larger font size.
  5. Word & Post games forum was moved out of the Lounge to the main category. This was done because the activity of the games are pushing focus away from other good potential discussions in the Lounge.
  6. Premium members now have access to a private forum with no content restrictions.
  7. Yes, The Last of Us looks like it could be an incredible game. Knowing who is behind it I could see a possible game of the year candidate before it even releases.
  8. I've really only seen one trailer for Dishonored and it looks pretty decent. But, I will also be waiting to see just how necessary the stealth elements are. I could never get into games that require significant stealth like Splinter Cell games as I am more of a "run in the room and kill everything" sort of player. As for PC games taking over from consoles I think that is still an improbability. I think for that to happen you have to have the system do a lot more for the average person. Until you can buy a game from the store (or download), insert the disk, then have it automatically install, analyze the system and set graphics/performance options and run, it's a non-starter. Most of the people I know that play on consoles wouldn't have the slightest idea where to start when tweaking options, installing patches, etc. Hell a pretty good number of them could not even look at the box and read the system requirements and have a clue if their system was capable. That is why consoles exist and sell as well as they do. If I pick up a copy of the newest game for PS3, I know it will work. Period. No PC can match that currently.
  9. It was a memory issue with Skyrim? I knew they had problems, but I didn't follow up. Not into Skyrim so it wasn't that interesting of news to me. As for the next Xbox, I'm really hoping they don't forget about core gamers. I kind of expect them to cater to casual gamers and in-game transactions to the point of annoyance, but I hope I'm wrong.
  10. So you did pick one? What did you end up getting? I've been watching and waiting for real details to come out, but I think we might be months away from that info yet. Microsoft has me a bit worried though. Over the course of the 360 they've really seemed to put gaming further into the background, and I worry that they've lost focus. I'm hoping Sony keeps focus on the gaming, as over the years I went from preferring my 360 to preferring my PS3. Plus Steam is working on Big Picture mode to have PC games run through the tv with a console controller. That could be yet another alternative for a big chunk of mainstream titles if you've got a PC that can run them.
  11. I just wrapped up season 2 of Falling Skies. I've quite enjoyed it so far.
  12. Despite the closures of some of the mega tracker sites, you're probably better off with torrents. I haven't bothered with any DDL in a while now. http://katzddl.ws/ http://fullversions.org/ Not forums so much as searchable indexes.
  13. Watched Safe with Jason Statham, because I watch and re-watch pretty much everything he stars in. Accordingly, the movie gets a 9/10 from me.
  14. Thanks to a bug report from Rahul (The Next Berbatov), a couple of errors on the mobile skin were corrected. If you were unable to log in or browse fully from the basic mobile skin that should be fixed now. As a reminder, we do continue to support Tapatalk and Forum Runner as additional options for accessing the forum via a mobile device.
  15. TOS MATERIAL CHANGE ANNOUNCEMENT AUGUST 30, 2012 We have always been open about changes that affect our users. For many years now, we have operated with nearly the same Terms of Service since the original SoccerPulse opened in 2002. While there have been minor material changes, these Terms have not been significantly modified in this entire time period. In 10 years though, the web has changed considerably. How we do business online, and our expectations of the companies that operate online have also shifted in this time. As a result, we too have had to reassess our practices. For the first time in those 10 years are making sweeping changes to our Terms of Service. Much of the details on how your account is handled on the forum, and our rights as Operators to handle accounts and posts remain the same. The prior requirement of logging in every 6 months or having at least 5 posts to prevent account deletion has been removed. User accounts will be kept indefinitely, or until management decides to run a manual removal. All user requests to have their account closed will continue to be honored. Posting in English requirement has been removed from the TOS and will be moved to Posting Rules. The rest of changes are basically to cover the sites liability on your data, and the limits legally we could be held responsible. We’ve also outlined our policy on copyright complaints and how we handle them. This stuff is exceedingly boring to read, but we still suggest you do so, and if you have any comments/concerns to address them with us. The current Terms can be found here, or at any time by clicking the Terms of Service link at the bottom of every page. Best Regards, Bill Linkfield Owner/Developer SoccerShouts.com Addendum: Your continued use of this site acknowledges acceptance of these revised terms. Any user who wishes to no longer be bound by this agreement can contact us and your account will be removed from our systems.
  16. Bingo. How the forum operates isn't changing. Really, the only people might be disappointed by the change are those who might one day consider suing SoccerShouts. For everyone else, we continue to do what we've always done. Unfortunately, both myself and the server are located in the litigation happy United States. It's that unavoidable truth that turns the old short and sweet agreement into a 1500+ word necessity.
  17. Seems we jumped above 5,000 members today. Welcome to all the new members joining us.

  18. Hey happy birthday!

  19. Finally have a proper Privacy Policy in place for better compliance with various laws around the world regarding collection/use of data from this site.
  20. Thanks for letting me know. I tested on FF, IE9, and Chrome but didn't notice any of the risk messages. Perhaps my Firefox is allowing too much by default.
  21. Yes, logging in/out may take an extra second or two to process now. That is because browsers won't cache parts or all of the page for security, so the browser has to download the page content each time. Additionally, the data is passed through 256-bit encryption to ensure security of your login details. This is especially important for anyone accessing the site through a public computer or via a public wifi point. Once the login/logout is processed the rest of the pages run in standard non-secured mode, which should still be pretty quick.
  22. Security has been enhanced. Logins and registrations are now handled on HTTPS, as are admin panel logins for staff. To facilitate better communication with our members, there have been changes to the PM system for New Members. Prior to these changes, new members could only receive PM communications, but had no create or reply capability. The latest update permits New Members to send messages, but only to staff members (admins, mods, etc). Also, they can now reply to a PM received from any member. As before, 5 proper posts is the key to getting into the regular Members group and having all restrictions removed. The restrictions on newly registered members has always been to reduce spam, though the tools we had available were pretty heavy-handed. I'm hoping that by finding ways to reduce the restrictions that better communication can be achieved with our newly registered users.
  23. Apologies for the brief few minutes of downtime. Changes were being made to IP assignment for future security enhancements.

  24. I'm working to see if I can make an option available. Right now it is just on/off at system level. The goal is to reduce Page scroll, as oftentimes the profile space on topics takes up more than the post space. Also, pages should be loading faster now as certain image elements on pages will not load immediately and only show once you scroll to them.
  25. The last of Us is a guaranteed purchase for me. Sleeping Dogs is wait and see. So far the reviews I've seen have been pretty positive. Wishing companies put out more console demos as Xbox or Ps3 would be my platform of choice.
