  1. Well, I'm calling it "downtime" more than they are. "During the maintenance period customers may experience slower than normal connections in and out of the server as well as possible 30-60 second time-out delays whilst the upgrade is taking place. " According to the host the sites should remain mostly online but with slowdowns and brief inaccessibility. Won't know until it is happening though exactly how much it will affect the site.

  2. In regards to the recent unplanned downtime, our host provided us with the following information.

Due to the unforseen occurrence of an MySQL Crash on November 6th 2011, we have had to make an urgent move to restore the chestnut system template back to the last official backup date of November 5th 2011. As this occurs the system will appear to be offline till the full recovery is done, after this has finalized SpeedySparrow and it's operations will move to limiting down any known MySQL or other related issues by moving current customers from the current system/network in to a secondary unit that we have attained - this will occur over a weeks period and should provide a new level of power to ensure that sites and services operate under the best performance possible and to which will eradicate these issues and will ensure that future transactions done on the server are kept in proper order.

While I do have a slightly more recent backup made several hours later on Nov. 6, I'm not going to ask to have this restored. To do so would cause us additional downtime until the backup can be uploaded and then imported. As this consists of less than 24 hours of posts, it really isn't worth the trouble.

There is another planned outage for upgrades on November 13, though this is hardware related and should not cause and major downtime or data loss.

SpeedySparrow would like to inform that on Sunday 11/13/2011 00:00 EST until Sunday 11/13/2011 06:00 EST we will be performing maintenance on our SAN Network to improve the equality of the performance which should be seen after the process has been completed. This notification comes well in advance so you can prepare your sites for any interruptions that may occur during this period, we do encourage that you do maintain your own backups at least a day/week prior to this maintenance taking effect being (November 12 2011) to avoid any interruptions in backups that you may take on (November 13 2011) or any losses that could occur.

During the maintenance period customers may experience slower than normal connections in and out of the server as well as possible 30-60 second time-out delays whilst the upgrade is taking place. Even though we do not expect any periods longer than 30-60 seconds on the time-outs to occur we cannot always make a guarantee on these figures to stand which means that longer unexpected time-outs may last whilst the SAN does undergo it's expected maintenance.

  3. I do find the console experience to be better. And unless you are a die-hard keyboard and mouse player, it probably is for just about everything else. You might be giving up a bit of graphics quality, but unless you're keeping an expensive gaming rig up to date with hardware you probably won't miss it. Plus you can grab a console for about the price of a graphics card anyway.

  4. Thanks Guy...

And the Next Berbie I agree with you a laptop shouldn't be used for heavy gaming, A laptop is just a tool to sit in bed at night and watch anime or a movie on and occasionally attempt to do some work... I want it for PC because I don't like playing an FPS on console, TPS I prefer on console, but still can't wait for that and for Batman.

And Frstplce, please get your laptop sorted coz that is prbably the funniest thing I have heard all week

I agree generally, but the last time I owned a desktop PC was probably 10 years ago. Since then I've gone through about 4 laptops. I just don't like sitting at a desk to use a PC. For me, portability is more important than ability. I have both PS3 and Xbox360 to feed my gaming habits, and my phone and tablet when I'm out. I do hope to get a new laptop by early next year, but not sure when exactly. Maybe once this site ever shows any signs of profitability. :)

Back on the subject of BF3, let me know how it is once you get it running. I've been looking forward to it for a while now, so hopefully the full game lives up to expectations.

  5. My one friend brought me videos from the champions league two seasons ago asked him where he got it but back then the forum was called soccer pulse

Good, but sad story if you want a read of what became of SoccerPulse: http://www.soccershouts.com/forum/topic/10281-welcome-to-soccershouts/

Fortunately I made the decision when I did. I've been able to redirect people from SoccerPulse to SoccerShouts for a few months now, at least until last week. It appears the owners of the SP domain have finally disappeared and the server SP files resided on shut down. I know I got an earful from a handful of people about my decision to up and move the site and become SoccerShouts, but that reaffirms the decision. Had I not done so we could all be staring at a domain that doesn't go anywhere.

  6. I'd like to say I have a better reason why I don't play PC games anymore, but the truth of the matter is that my laptop is an ancient piece of junk. Just about anything made in the past 3 years that requires more effort to run than say, Bejeweled, is liable to bring my computer to a grinding halt. That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much. :(

I'm trying to be good and hold off picking up BF3 until next month. I just know Amazon or someone is going to have a great price for Black Friday sales.

  7. I\'m sure I will play it eventually. I\'ve got a backlog of games to get to already, and battlefield 3 will be moving to the top of that list, so it could be a while.

  8. This is a show I catch sporadically, and never in any order. Usually come across it when channel surfing and end up leaving it on for a bit. Not a bad show, but I honestly couldn't see myself watching 10 seasons of it. Then again, there's few shows of any kind that I want to watch 10 seasons of.

  9. Since about 3:30pm EST on Wednesday September 28, SoccerShouts was offline and broken. The cause of this downtime was a hardware fault with our hosting provider. Over the last 30 hours or so work was being done to undo the damage and get all sites restored. Fortunately between our backups with our host and my own personal backups, we were protected against any real loss of data. Due to when the backups were made, it appears less than one day of posts were lost.

While the downtime was longer than any of us would have liked to see, it is good that things are back up and running, with minimal damage.
