Robin to fly away?

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright told Sky Sports News HD he can understand why Robin van Persie is reluctant to discuss a new contract with the club.
The Dutch forward, who has two years left on his current agreement, is in no hurry to pen a deal, insisting his priority is to help propel the Gunners up the Premier League table following their tumultuous start to the campaign. Arsene Wenger's side were hit by big-name departures over the summer with Cesc Fabregas returning to Barcelona and Samir Nasri joining Man City's star-studded squad. And Wright - who played up front for the Gunners from 1991-98 - reckons that unless Arsenal make significant improvements, van Persie could be the next key figure to walk through the exit door.
"I wouldn't blame Robin van Persie if he left now, " said Wright, a scorer of 128 league goals during his time with the Londoners. "Arsene Wenger and the board have had enough time, having seen what's happened with players in previous years when they have run their contracts down, to offer Robin van Persie an incentive to stay, in respect to players they are going to buy and where the club is going. "He, just like anyone else, wants success, to win stuff and to play in finals and unfortunately that's not happening at Arsenal at the minute - but it would be a real gutter if he left."
Arsenal suffered the frustration of a derby defeat on Sunday, losing 2-1 to arch rivals Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Pressed on whether the balance of power in North London is shifting, Wright begrudgingly added: "If Wenger doesn't liven himself up, then I think it is. "Tottenham, with a bit more money, would be more attractive at this moment than Arsenal. "They've got a very good chance of being in the top four, while if Arsenal could finish sixth or seventh I'd be delighted with that. "And then, hopefully, next season Wenger will do something. But we say that every transfer window and think: 'This is going to be the one'. Tottenham are edging us right now."
