Wigan Vs Arsenal Preview

After coming away with their best away result this season (a very late Franco Di Santo goal gave them a 1-2 win at the Stadium of Light), Roberto Martinez will be looking to maintain the momentum going into this game in the hope of propelling Wigan out of the relegation places. If fellow relegation battlers Blackburn could do it, why not them (Blackburn's only win of the campaign came against Arsenal earlier this season)?

Interestingly enough, Arsenal haven't managed to get 3 points from their last two visits to The DW Stadium, falling to a 2-2 draw last season and a 3-2 loss in 2010, so Wigan will be looking to continue their hot home form against the Gunners on Saturday.

The 'Latics' also have the advantage of no 'big name' injuries coming into the game, with 3rd choice 'keeper Chris Kirkland being the only notable absentee.

Arsenal
Arsenal had zero new injuries coming out of their game against Manchester City during their Carling Cup quarter final game but long term absentees Jack Wilshere (ankle) and Bacary Sagna (leg) are still set to be sidelined. Thomas Rosicky (thigh problem) and Abou Diaby (muscular problem) are also set not to feature. Kieran Gibbs is also a doubt for the game.

Arsene Wenger rested star men Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott for Manchester City's visit to the Emirates and both are expected to return against Wigan. The two are currently Arsenal's top goal scorers this season, so it'll be a welcome addition for the team who failed to score against City during the midweek game. Other notable players such as Thomas Vermaelen and Gervinho are also set to return to the team.

Man of the Moment:

Thomas Vermaelen

After scoring an unfortunate own goal before a superb late header against Fulham in the 1-1 draw last game-week, Thomas Vermaelen will be looking to get the Gunners going again (hopefully in the right net!) against Wigan. He'll want to make up for lost time, having spent the majority of last two seasons on the sidelines.

Prediction:

Wigan 1 - 3 Arsenal
